PS: Abraham’s Bells theme quote unintentional. It unveiled for me when listening to the final mix.

Lantern on the Hill

Backdated because it was recorded yesterday. I just ran out of energy to do the master and publish it. Theme and title inspired by a German movie I saw that day: „Gegen die Wand”.

To Go Straight

After over a week of silence, improvisations are back. Just like they sung, “the times, they are a-changing”. And indeed, some great stuff is ahead, stay tuned.

As for the improvisation itself, today’s piece is quite technical, and at the same time, a breath of fresh air. Try and listen.

Note: You might want to look at the archive of older entries where all improvisations for May are still being kept.

In Your Room

A clumsy attempt at fast, rhythmic performance. When you’re playing in a tempo that technically makes you a big metronome, there’s hardly space (and time) for invention.

Bodytrapped III

This is my long overdue response for Eric Barnhill’s versus. This is already the third piece in the series. This time I had real trouble coming up with a theme that is not repetitive yet recognisably chained to Eric song’s structure. In particular, I’m not happy with the rhythmic accuracy I managed to get (or rather - the lack of it).

But the longer I worked on different improvisations on the theme, the more I felt this would go nowhere, so in the end I kept this version. Imperfect but done.

The Way To Paradise (is a part of it)

In fact, the way may be the paradise.

By the way, Eric Barnhill posted another link in our chain of mutual improvisations, a response to Bodytrapped II. Well played, let’s see where I can go from here...

Bodytrapped II

This piece is the continuation of the improvisation challenge for Eric Barnhill in a series of versuses, mutual improvisations on a given theme. The game turns out to be very interesting and it was tough to prepare a worthy improvisation as a response for his piece. I hope the result is okay.

Update: Eric posted his response, well played indeed. Let’s see where I can go from here...

No Rest Until The Search Ends

Eh. I tried to speed up the process by recording straight to Logic Pro and then - as it crashed without me saving the work - I’ve got one more reason to use the on-board sequencer of the piano: it does not crash, ever.

Tried to recover the theme by doing endless takes since then. Somewhat succeeded but you’ll have to believe me if I say - the original was somewhat better.

Bodytrapped

This piece is the first challenge for Eric Barnhill in a planned series of versuses, mutual improvisations on a given theme. The rules we set are as follows:
- every improv and versus is a single take, improvised
- the versus is based on the original improv
- consecutive versuses are based on themselves

I hope this turns out interesting.

To Runie (Thorvnivm)

This would probably be a base for a catchy song. Provided that the lyrics weren’t too embarrassing. The performance is somewhat imprecise but you’ll have to excuse me, I just had to get this theme published. Probably will do a better version of it later on. Recorded at 146 BPM. And by the way, “to runie” means “it will collapse” in Polish.

Whiskey Impotence

One of Anomalies, a series of improvisations I’ve done in 2007. Unfortunately the unedited Logic files are gone, so only the processed ones will be published along with the MP3s.
